Mapping data about the incidence of rheumatic fever in Auckland helped decision-making.
Working with our partners at Pacific Perspectives, we geocoded data collected through a survey of families who had a member diagnosed with Rheumatic Fever. The geocoded data was then projected onto a map of the local community wards of Auckland city where the bulk of cases were located. The survey results were consistent with other analysis showing a high incidence in South Auckland, and to a lesser extent West Auckland.
The geocoded data was cross-referenced with data about the level of household crowding among the families surveyed. The map allows decision-makers to quickly recognise opportunities to optimise the delivery of services designed to improve the quality of housing for families.
